Had the chance to really break out the “pretty normal” photos and do something different. Thank you to my lovely model Carly. She looked amazing, beautiful and unique, and it was fun working with her. Towards the end of the shoot, I was running out of ideas for poses so I asked her if she had any ideas, and she most definitely rocked it.
I have been seeing these black geisha lips in my mind for a while and have been wondering how to use them. Memoirs of a geisha is a novel that I have fallen in love with, and oddly enough for the past year I have been dying to watch the movie again. And I guess it is only normal for my sub-conscience to influence my artistic side and have me photograph something like this.
It turned out exactly how I pictured it, I am so happy with the results.
I used mostly ambient lighting and a reflector for the first half of the shots. Once the sun had set I brought out a strobe and created the softbox effect with an umbrella. Using the sunset as a backlight and the strobe as my main light, I found it really created a surreal effect to the images, that was definitely essential to the makeup and theme I was going for.
Enjoy.
